Video surveillance of town centres is becoming an increasingly important ingredient in modern public safety systems. These are typically deployed as part of a partnership between the local government authorities and the local police. There is often, however, a major barrier to the implementation of these networks: the costs of deploying a wired network linking the cameras with the police is prohibitive. Wireless links can however easily support the traffic levels required by even the highest specification cameras. Cirrus has implemented such a solution for the Gosford City Council.

Constituting some forty cameras over four town centres, the network is of moderate size and utilises cameras from Pelco. Recognising the large amounts of data that may need to be carried, the network includes a gigabit wireless link from the Council Chambers to the Gosford Police Station.
